Prague, 15 February 2024 – Vehicles registered in the Electronic Toll System will automatically qualify for the basic 1st CO2 emission class as of 1 March 2024. For vehicles first registered after 1 July 2019, operators can check the registration documents and use the CO2 Emission Class Finder at www.mytocz.eu/co2 to see if they qualify for a higher CO2 emission class with lower fees.

Vehicles first registered before 1 July 2019 and all M2 and M3 vehicles (buses) will qualify for the basic 1st CO2 emission class and they will not qualify for a higher CO2 emission class (i.e. 2nd through 5th with reduced fees). Their operators do not need to make any further steps (except for vehicles powered purely by electricity or hydrogen - these qualify for the 5th CO2 emission class).

Only a minimum number of carriers will need to take active steps to accommodate to this adjustment. According to CzechToll's analysis, only 5 to 10 per cent of the vehicles registered in the Czech Republic's Electronic Toll System currently meet the conditions for being included in a higher CO2 emission class. To this date, CzechToll has received just under 300 applications for a vehicle to be classified in a higher CO2 emission class than the basic 1st class.

"We would like to thank the carriers who carefully check the vehicle documentation and actively use the CO2 Emission Class Finder on the toll system website. At the same time, it should be reiterated that all vehicles will automatically qualify for the basic class and carriers will not face any penalties if they do not check the vehicles registered after 1 July 2019 and keep them in the basic emission class," said Petr Chvátal, CzechToll CEO.

They can check and to apply for a higher CO2 emission class of vehicles that meet the requirements of the European directive at any time in the future; there is no deadline for submitting an electronic application.
